Fertility-Boosting Smoothie Recipe from the Experts at OvulifeMD

When you're trying to boost your fertility for the greatest chance of conception, creativity counts. Fertility smoothies are one of the tastiest options, but it's a little trickier than throwing some fruit, ice, and milk into the blender. In a recent post at OvulifeMD, Dr. William Haas, MD and MBA, shares his tips for the most effective fertility smoothies, including common pitfalls to avoid, how to choose the right ingredients, and how to assemble your smoothie. Today, we're sharing a recipe for a dark chocolate pomegranate smoothie from OvulifeMD's fertility smoothie guide.

Did you Know?

From too much high-glycemic fruit to not enough healthy fats to the prevalence of powdered protein, there are a few potential hurdles in the fertility smoothie world. As you craft your smoothie, Dr. Haas advises following a basic formula to support your reproductive health:

  • 1 serving of antioxidant-rich fruit
  • 2 servings of leafy greens
  • 1 serving of plant-based protein
  • 1 serving of a healthy, plant-based fat

He also recommends throwing in a few fertility superfoods, such as açaí berries, cacao, chia or hemp seeds, or spirulina.

Dark Chocolate Pomegranate Fertility Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen organic strawberries
  • 1 cup frozen organic spinach
  • 1-2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder
  • 4 ounces pomegranate juice
  • 4 ounces water

Mix all ingredients except the chia seeds in a blender or smoothie maker until smooth. Stir in the chia seeds after blending. Pour into a glass and, optionally, top with cacao nibs or hemp hearts.

For additional protein, OvulifeMD recommends adding scope of high-quality protein powder. Chocolate protein works particularly well in this recipe.

Nut allergy? Swap out the almond butter for one quarter cup of shredded coconut flakes.
